My Life and Wine
My name is Sarah Wright. I always thought I had a pretty good understanding about wine until I started to read the texts for this course. I now feel like I don't know a damn thing about wine and am about to get my learn on.
Wine has always been ingrained in the fibers of my life. My parents are Italian and it was natural to have wine with everything. Cook with it, have it with dinner, or just drink it by itself. When I learned to cook I tasted small amounts of wine so I knew what each ingredient tasted like. When I learned to set the table and serve a meal, I tasted the wine to know how to pair food with it. For the most part, I thought wine was terrible and was only a drink that adults could like.
When I became old enough to buy my own beverages, I only bought sweet wine. Mainly Moscato. I have a sweet tooth and liked anything very sugary. The older I get, the more I don't like super sweet wine. Moscato is almost too much for me to drink now. As far as what I like, I really enjoy a good cab sav if I'm drinking a red. And I'm still a sucker for a good buttery chardonnay if I drink white.
For cooking, I like to use a Bordeaux or Malbec. They have bold flavors and really accent any dish. If I'm cooking with white wines, I like to use a dry chardonnay or a pinot grigio. These two are delicate enough to add flavor to a sauce or soup, but are not too overpowering.
I think the thing I'm most excited to learn in this class is more about pairing wine with food and how to store it. My go to is chardonnay and I can drink it with any meal. I'd like to see what other wines are out there and will make cooking and eating that much more enjoyable. I also have quite a few bottles at my house, so I'm interested in learning how to store them so they don't go bad.
