Winery Review: Crisp aromas veer towards fresh bell pepper and tangerine peel. This feels minerally but also like extracted grape skins. Mixed citrus and green-herb flavors end with a stony lasting feel.
My Review: Again, I decided to do favorites of the family this week. Sauvignon Blanc is my husband's favorite type of wine. I affectionately refer to this wine as stinky feet cheese wine. I have never been a fan and even after tasting this, I can't say that my opinion has changed much.
When I opened the bottle, it had been chilled for approximately an hour in the fridge before serving it for brunch. I didn't let it sit out after opening it before trying it because I didn't want it to get warm. This was another one of the wines we paired with the brunch we had with my in-laws.
The initial aroma was very sour to me. It was like crisp lemons and maybe a little smell of bleach? I know that's not a pleasant smell, but this wine smells something awful to me.
I went ahead and reluctantly poured myself a glass of it and took a small taste. Much to my expectation, it tasted what I imagine stinky feet would taste like. GROSS!!! I then paired it with the salmon. It was.....meh. I then tried it with raspberries and pineapple. This significantly cut down on the harshness of the wine. And then I tried it with sharp cheddar. YIKES!!!!! However, it was worth the look on my mother-in-law's face when she tried this combination. I'm giggling about it as I type. It was super sour and I didn't know what had happened to my taste buds.
Overall, I still don't like his wine. I can't think of anything that pairs well with it. The best thing you can do for this wine is to drown it out with lots of sugary fruits. Or just pour it out and buy the $4.62 bottle of Cab Sav I had last week. I don't recommend this wine. But if you don't like things that taste good, go for it!
