Winery Review: Blu Perfer is an original young blue wine made from grapes of 100% Chardonnay, macerated with extracts of grape skin, obtaining pleasant aromas of cherry, raspberry, and passion fruit. With its own personality, owes it elegant blue color to natural pigment found in the grape skin. Anthocyanin.
My Review: This week my theme was unusual wines. I chose this one because of it's obviously distinct color. It's electric blue! I have seen this on the shelves for quite some time and figured this was as good a time as any to give it a try. When I purchased it, I was unaware that it was made with 100% Chardonnay grapes. I assumed, based on color, that it was going to be a sweet wine. Preparing myself to be overwhelmed with sugar, I opened the bottle. I instantly smelled candied blueberries and something like candied tangerines. Very sweet smell. It also had a very buttery chardonnay style finish. (Now that I know it's a Chardonnay, it explains everything!). When I poured a glass (see below for it's beautiful electric blue color) I was surprised and it tasted nothing like what I was expecting. it was NOT SWEET in the least bit. For all it's intense colors, it was rather bland. It finished like a Chardonnay (duh!) but like it had a lemon twist. It was sour and ick and I just really don't know what to think about this wine. Nothing about this wine worked together. It's kind of all over the place. I didn't try this with food. I had my two sips to do the tasting notes and then sadly, poured the rest of the bottle down the drain. I'm glad I finally tried it because I've been curious for a long time. Just kind of disappointed that it was such a train wreck.
This is what the wine looks like in the glass!
